Memorializing an account also prevents anyone from logging into it in the future, while still enabling friends and family to leave posts on the profile Wall in remembrance.
Unfortunately, knowing a couple of people who this applied to, it’s always been a little strange for me. I guess it would be no different than someone having a blog or any other online presence. I imagine Facebook is sort of a forerunner here and I’m sure other services will adopt the idea of “memorializing.”
